Many thanks for your column, "Our Civil
Liberties Are Threatened," and for your
courage to write it. I fear that it is only
a matter of time before public expressions
of such views will no longer be feasible.
Speaking of putting our own house in order,
my best friend was forced out of a good job
and onto disability status in her 30s due to
multiple medical problems. Without gov't.
subsidies she would be homeless and without
needed medication. She is in constant fear
of this happening, due to this heartless
administration cutting taxes for the rich
and pouring money into an illegal and
unnecessary war that should be used for the
people of this country.
Thanks to my recent studies of science, I no
longer agonize over how an
"advanced" society can behave so
inhumanely. We behave like animals
(sometimes worse, due to our "big
brain") because we ARE animals. (To
confirm this, read Jared Diamond's "The
Third Chimpanzee."
Doesn't make it any more pleasant, but at
least I now understand things are as they
are, and why the chances of them getting significantly
better are all but nil.
Again, I thank you for speaking out.
